I'm a fifth-year student at University of Wisconsin-Stout studying towards a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice and Rehabilitation. I'm studying Criminal Justice because I'm interested in this field and have ambitions to further my growth towards working in a federal agency. Outside of school I was a captain in the Track and Field team for Stout, and volunteer helping the local community of Menomonie.
I've taken meaningful classes where I've learned different aspects of criminal officers as in theories of crime and why people commit crime, studying treatment services that are available for adolescents, strategies to prevent abuse, and learned about rehab services offered in correction facilities. With this knowledge, I've addressed real world examples and created my own rehab service programs for different types of offenders from what I've learned in class.
I am currently working at Fleet Farm in the Loss Prevention department. I have a variety of different task that I have to do. The main tasks are completing monthly tasks and store audits, properly securing merchandise in hard tags or spider wraps, and watching cameras and apprehending people who are shoplifting. I also completed CPR and AED training while working at Fleet Farm.
While working for Per Mar Security, I worked as an overnight security guard working at multiple different sites across the Twin Cities area. My tasks included monitoring cameras, walking the premises of the sites, escorting people off sites, writing down an hourly update form, and completed the mandatory state training for being a security guard.
I worked as an probation/parole agent intern where I worked with offenders. I began shadowing an agent, helping completing intake forms, prior records list, meeting summaries, and other tasks. I was then trained in COMPASS and began working with my own offenders, setting up meetings, completing check ins and other probation/parole duties. This internship gave me valuable experience and an intro into the criminal justice world.
I got experience working with a team, communicating with supervisors and co-workers, and how how we can improve our production. Also it was my first time working in a 40 hour work week where it helped me develop a work ethic and time management skills.
I worked as a front desk cashier where I got to develop communication skills; And work with the community in setting up and working with the local events.
My resource directory is a paper I created that contains 30 different resources that are intended help the community I would serve. Resources I have are, local shelters, food shelfs, free clinics, employment services and more. I did my research on the western Wisconsin area, as I'm interested in working in this area; And this directory would be useful if I encounter an individual who needs help.
Choose a real life example of a criminal offense and created my own rehabilitation program to see if the offender can be rehabilitated. The case I choose was Chris Watts v. Colorado where Mr. Watts committed three accounts of first degree murder. Throughout my research to create my rehabilitation program, I found that there is no concrete rehabilitation programs in place for offenders who have committed murder. I then created a program using existing tools and services that could have success with the rehabilitation of convicted murders.
Researched into Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) to see the different aspects of how juveniles mental health, their education, and risk of being a victim of violence/abuse is effected. Now in days juvenile courts are now sentencing juveniles to rehabilitation programs rather than a JDC; Which is a good thing to see change when having data to show that JDC has not been the most effective.
Earning All Conference Honors for the State Meet with a GPA of 3.8
In this association, I'm working towards getting helpful certificates as an officer from my school as in how to administer CPR and Narcan. I'm involved with the community doing volunteer work at soup kitchens, food shelf, and shelters; And touring different facilities that work with hand in hand with law enforcement.
While I was in NHS, I needed to do some volunteering work where I did volunteered in my local Elementary school, grocery stores, and soccer camp. There I helped teachers at their schools carnival, bagged groceries at the store, and assisted on coaching at the soccer camp. This helped me develop a good work ethic and being organized with time as I had to balance school, volunteering, and work.
Developed better communication skills while working at the ticket stand.
